One of the easiest ways to decrease your carbon footprint is to reduce you energy consumption. There are a number of ways t0 save energy, and they typically are in electricity, natural gas and/or water. Water may not typically be considered an energy saving method since it is relatively inexpensive, but when we take into account the amount of energy involved in the water purification, transportation, and treatment processes it can have a substantial contribution towards energy impact.
Moving on to electricity now, a good rule of thumb is – anything that produces heat out of electricity has a very low inherent efficiency since most electricity is produced from coal, gas, or oil generators that convert only about 30% of the fuel’s energy into electricity. Whenever possible try reducing the use of electricity by adjusting your habits, such as hanging cloths to dry, turning up the A/C temperature by two degrees, and cooking with pressure cookers to name a few.
